Sanding. Now the fun begins. Get out your sandpaper and paring knife. If the weather is nice, take your doll outside for this step. If you do it inside, work over your kitchen sink to control the mess. Hold your doll’s head in one hand and support her neck, or if you are outside, lay her down on a flat surface. You can even lay her on the ground and work there. Beginning at the lowest place you grunged, sand away, back and forth, back and forth, until the hard layer comes off. Work your way up to her neck. When you get to the face, take your time, being careful around any floss stitches on her mouth, nose, and eyes. If you sand these too hard, the stitches will come loose. Your goal is to sand off the cinnamon and hard layer of coffee. If you happen to tear the fabric, don’t worry. That is all part of becoming a prim. You want that to happen. Keep on sanding until you are satisfied with her appearance.
